About Me

David DiMatteo was born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1971 to two wonderful parents. As the middle child growing up in the idyllic suburbs of Long Island, he was drawn to art at an early age. He made gold colored maccaroni picture frames for Mom and painted mugs for Dad. Then in 1977 he saw Star Wars and everything changed. The movie opened up a whole new world for him, sparking an interest in design, filmmaking, and visual effects, that continue to this day.

David spent his teenage years in Toronto, Canada, attending Thornlea High School and working at The Canadian Centre For Advanced Film Studies and at the videogame company Readysoft, Inc. In 1990, he studied art at the Rhode Island School of Design, graduating with a BFA in Illustration in 1994. After graduating, he moved to Boston, MA and worked at DreamLight, Inc. a digital design and web studio. Then in 2000 he began working at Olive Jar Studios. It was here that he was given the opportunity to create animation backgrounds and he hasn't looked back since.

David has spent the last decade as an animation background designer, working on TV series, pilots, and shorts at Turner Studios, Cartoon Network, Global Mechanic, and Yeah Sure Productions. Notable shows include "Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law," "Ugly Americans," and "Avery Matthews: Porch Cow." He is currently living and working in Providence, Rhode Island, with his lovely wife, Francesca.
